The amp is a crown xls 2500. I actually have 2 Titanic 15's right now in 8 cf boxes tuned to 20 hz. When I run the daytons hard, about 5 db before clipping the amp I'm getting lots of distortion. I would like to get the uxl's but I won't be able to build new boxes for a few months so I'd run them in the boxes the Titanic are currently in.

ok are they sealed or ported?? If ported do you know the size of the port?? it will work in the 8cu. ft. box the uxl's if you can cut the hole bigger??

Ported tuned to 20 hz, the port is 3.5 x 24 x however long it needed to be to be tuned to 20 hz. I think it was around 50 inches long. And yes I could cut the hole bigger for the uxl's.

If you're clipping the amp on the Titanics you most certainly will clip it on the UXL. Using the XLS2500 really will not do two UXLs justice. The XLS2500 puts out 775w a ch. or 2400w bridged. A sealed UXL will take the whole 2400w. A ported UXL will take 1200-1500w.

Inserting the UXL into the enclosure built for the Titanic will work, however, I don't believe you will gain much spl, but could eliminate the distortion issue you are running into currently.

Your idea of building new boxes down the road should work better for you.

The problem isn't that I'm clipping the amp, it's that the Titanics can't handle the power, they start to produce lots of distortion about 5 db before I can clip the amp. I just need someone to model the uxl in the box I have my Titanics in. Every time I try to model it in winisd I get an error.

Thanks, so do you think the uxl's will have cleaner output? And also do you know if the uxl's could be wired down to 2 ohms a piece? I couldn't find the voice coil configuration on their website.

I personally don't have experience with the the Titanic. That being said, everything I've read says that the UXL will most definitely have more/cleaner output. The UXL is a single voice coil 4ohm driver, so no way to configure 2ohm. I own a UXL and own/have owned XLS 1500 and 2500. BTW, nice driver and amps.

Food for thought. Sell your XLS 2500 and purchase 2 XLS 1500's. Run one each to a UXL in a 6ft3 ported enclosure. No reason to go 8ft3 because the XLS drivecore line of amps all have a factory HPF set at 20hz. You could sell your XLS 2500 and pick up a couple of Behringer ep4000's or similar type amp and run one each bridged to a sealed UXL around 4ft3.
