Hey Guys

I Brought a Dayton sa1000 rack amp and was wondering what would be the best driver to pair it with for HT?

Im in Australia so the choices are limited. I was looking at the Dayton um-18-22 18" ultimax to match the amp or am I better to try and find a mach 5 uxl-18 or is there a better choice. Also, would the box dimensions be the same as needed for the ixl-18 which I don't think is available anymore?

Thanks for any help

We would have to know what king of alignment you are looking at (Sealed, vented, etc). What is your size constrain for the enclosure. What is your room size. Also are you planning to always use the Dayton amp or you might upgrade to something more powerful in the future?

Having a first look at it both subwoofer in vented alignment will produce about the same SPL with 1000 watt tuned to the same frequency but the Mach5 like smaller enclosure apparently. The UXL will also handle more power. If both are pushed to maximum power they could handle the UXL will have a 3 to 6 Db advantage over the Dayton. But this can vastly vary depending on enclosure size and tuning.

But before determining really what is the optimal driver for you we have to know the answer to the question I asked. I don't really know what is available in your country but Stereo Integrity are also well regarded currently. They have the HT18 which is an awesome low budget driver (comparable to the Dayton) and also the HST18 which is more in the same league that the UXL18 from Mach5.

Another easy way to smooth out overall response and have more output is multiple driver even if they are less expensive can be a better use sometime but with the amp you have you will run out of power quite fast.

The IXL wanted a much larger cabinet than the UXL. UXL's are not in stock as of now and dont know when they will be back in stock. Your other bet would be to buy a SI 18 HST but this all depends on your budget.

With the Dayton amp you will never push the HST to its full potential, IXL maybe in a very large cabinet and even the UM 18 can take quite a bit of power. So the main two that are available are the Dayton 18 and the HST 18. Maybe the SI 18's also are available.

What are your cabinet size limitations? And do you have a budget on the 18" woofer?

Didnt see Steeve-O's reply.......BUT great advice Steeve-O. :D

The room is about 16m2 or 172 square ft. No real size limits so I will probably go with a vented box tuned to around 19hz. I plan on staying with the sa1000 for a while as it has LFE input and is good looking amp.

Not really any budget limit, I just want the best first up rather than go cheapest and have to replace it later.
