Hi everyone, greetings from South Africa
I am using a Umik-1 connected to my HTPC running HDMI to the AVR
I'm a bit technically challenged but really want to understand how to interpret the graphs and learn how to set up my system to the best of it's abilities
Spent the past 2 weeks reading up on acoustics, room treatments and placement of speakers for best response. Took multiple measurements for the front speakers and tried various toe ins and speaker positions till i got the smoothest frequency response but alas there are still issues (please note no room treatments have been done as yet. i wanted to figure out what the problems are first before going on a tangent and possibly doing more damage)
Another issue i have been having is dialogue when watching movies. Speech is not as loud or doesn't have the presence as that of a proper cinema despite me using decent speakers (Jamo C80 5.1 package). Dynamic EQ set on the "light" setting on the Onkyo TX-NR1010 improves it somewhat but i would like to disable it as i can hear there is far too much compression and explosions don't have the impact they're supposed to with it enabled. After taking measurements i am almost certain the drivers or room is to blame for this as the graph varies a lot from those of the Left and Right floorstanders.
When taking measurements i am assuming i can use the "Direct" function on the Onkyo and set all speakers to Large and disable any EQ or dynamic volume settings?
I still need to figure out the acoustic timing reference functionality so i can try phase align the fronts with my sub seeing that i can't use the loopback timing reference
Here are my graphs nonetheless, maybe some experienced folk can tell me if there is something seriously wrong with the response
Speakers measured independently. Mic at listening position pointed straight ahead and not at each speaker
Each speaker + subwoofer playing together measured independently
Subwoofer measurment
mdat file included
