I am very happy with my $500 NEC PG-9100 (9PG Plus) CRT Projector. It only took me 3 months to learn how to set it up properly. ;)

I voted projector but then afterwards I thought "What the **** am I thinking? CRT's have the best picture quality in my mind".

After CRT, I definitely say projector. I wouldn't trade my 100" screen for any plasma or lcd! So take one from projector and add it to CRT.

I had my little 32" JVC crt sitting in the same room as my Sanyo PLV-Z5 projector and for picture quality, the el cheapo uncalibrated JVC had the better picture.
BUT what do I watch 100% of the time you ask????
The 100" Sanyo projector - Just like for cars, there's no substitute for extra inches! :)
And, oh yeah, my 50" Pioneer Plasma is somewhere in between as far as pic quality.

I am a fan of the LCoS displays, especially the Sony SXRD. I will take a fixed-pixel display over a CRT projection any day. They are easier to set-up and keep there settings (except for the light bulb slowly dimming.

I believe the best - and most dramatic - images continue to come from front projectors onto a top quality screen. I've seen some Runco and Barco systems that were truly spectacular. On a more modest scale, I've been impressed with some of the DLP rear projectors, but the market is clearly moving to flat panels, regardless of image quality.

A properly calibrated CRT ie Sony 34XBR960 has by far one of the best PQ out there. My Sony KD-34XBR970 is very close behind in PQ too, **** even the 40XBR800 is better than any LCD, Plasma I've ever seen in friends homes. Oh well to each there own!

This was true until just this year. OLED (organic LED) is now being produced and you will soon get all the fantastic colour and contrast of a CRT display without the burn in issues. I still have my Sony 53"HD RPTV and agree its has the best picture in HD of any display I have seen. I tried my BluRay player on it and it blows even the best Plasma out of the water as I had it calibrated properly and make sure the convergence is perfect every 3 months or so manually.
