Distorted image and ghosting on Sony CRT TV

My friend has a Sony KP-57WS510 television and several months ago the picture started ghosting pink and green and is also distorted, as if the pincushion settings went crazy (straight horizontal borders from commercials and widescreen movies appear wavy or bowed). My first thought was that something magnetic had come too close to it and messed with it.

I do not recommend using kits. There are many substandard parts out there and many years of experience led us to only recommend a small group of reliable suppliers. As the parts get harder to get, cheap copies and second tier parts get more common.
Try to get it degaussed first.

I could even begin to tell you where you could get a degaussing want these days but that would be my first thought.
This type of display does not require degsaussing.

Is the convergence system on one board? My friend gave me the OK to order the repair kit from the link above (TVRepairKits) but if you say these kits aren't that reliable, I'd rather swap out the whole board and know it's going to work.
Board swapping is problematic and far too expensive on most sets. Just change the chips and resistors and any open fuses. Buy the parts from one of the recommended suppliers.
