I've made some good progress. At this point, the box is done and installed. It is has yet to be painted, wired and drivers installed. Those should be next week. I also have to build a cloth grill for it.

Last side almost ready to go on:

Box almost complete:

Next week will be the finished shots.

Thanks! A little tip I figured out that I haven't seen before....I used double sided carpet tape to install the sound absorbing foam on the inside of the box. This stuff is super sticky and intended for permanent installation. I found it to me MUCH easier to use than spray on adhesive.

Good idea. I bet it is a lot less painful than hot glue too. Especially when trying to work in small enclosures :mooooh:

The carpet tape can be purchased in the flooring department of home depot, just ask anybody there for carpet tape, they'll show you where it is.

Good tip. I remember the Tesa tape I used to need at an old job when I was a teen. That stuff could hold a ship together.

Looks like you are making progress. I like the way you missed the central vac....

You still need to get over to my place and hear some serious woofage :innocent:

I hope your folks appreciate the work you have put in. I think they are really going to like the system after you finish. You sure pay attention to detail.

You jest, but that stupid central vac really got my shorts in a bunch. I was going to use that entire stud pocket and put a 12" TC Sounds dB500 in there, but NOOO. One day I show up at my parents house and there is a stupid central vac head and tube running to the second floor in my space. That is what forced me down the dual 8" path in the first place. Whatever, because it has been a fun project regardless...more challenging even....and you know how I get turned on by a good challenge.

Matt, I really was not making jest of the central vac. What I meant was that you did a good job of working the trim right up to the edge and getting the most out of the romm you had. You should be a design engineer.

Make sure you post pictures of the finished product.

My parents tell me they are done painting, so I hope to finally install the drivers this weekend. I built the grill frame and I'll test fit it before I paint and cover it. I also swapped out the resistor on the Bash500 amp to adjust the HPF. Stay tuned.

OK....after much delay, I have finally finished this install. My apologies to anyone who was interested and have been waiting for final results. First, here are the installed pictures. Sorry...all I had was my cell phone to take the pics.

I have REQ sweeps too, but not uploaded yet. I should get to that tonight or tomorrow. Overall, I am a little disappointed with the results. Don't get me wrong, the sub sounds great, especially with music. I did however get noticeable port noise and distortion with test tones at higher SPLs. I realize that this will probably not come into play during real world listening, but I was hoping for a little better power handling. Regardless, the fit and finish turned out fantastic and hopefully, it will be able to keep up when they finally go out and buy a surround sound receiver.
