Lou Reed's Berlin (2008) Former lead singer and songwriter for the innovative group The Velvet Underground, Reed revisits his solo venture "Berlin," a tragic rock opera about a doomed couple. "Berlin" is riddled with themes of drug use and depression, punctuated by heavy orchestral arrangements and is considered Reed's greatest solo achievement. Directed by Oscar nominee Julian Schnabel (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly), "Berlin" was filmed in December 2006 at St. Ann's Warehouse in Brooklyn, New York and features the singer performing his controversial narrative album live with the divided city of Berlin as the concert's backdrop. After a fellow agent and close friend is murdered, Hubert is ordered to take his place at the head of a poultry firm in Cairo.
