I'm trying my best not to weigh in on one of these threads again...The modeling is really not saying much about anything that is unexpected. OBV 21" cone will be more efficient. Also modeling is just that sometimes:nerd:

Cdoggy,

Not sure where you are coming from. The comment about the excursion graph is not making sense in particular.

The XXX has a linear motor based on split coil and also has aluminum shorting rings and a full aluminum cap on the motor. It also has more cooling built in and more wire in the vc's in total. The suspension bottoms out at about 60mm inward stroke compared to 40mm for the MX. No doubt as to which woofer gets into trouble first. The extra SD does make up for a lot though.

You also have to find a parking lot that is a good distance from any nearby road. You can easily pick up significant amounts of noise at low frequency that isn't audible but will show up in the measurement. I cannot do distortion measurements in my parking lot due to the highway 0.25 miles away. I can sit and see 60-70dB noise at 30-35Hz. Hard to get good distortion measurements with that type of background noise.

I get that sort of thing in my home and my practice area too. I've got noise issues period. That's why I always do my sweeps at a solid drive level of 95-100db to get up out of the background garbage as much as possible.
