Scott,

How do the Havoc's and the Mayhem compare to the Q18s for HT. Also the SMD sub looks wicked. I would love to hear how that would sound. I looked on Blade Ice where I got my FI's from but there are no prices.

Be good to get your thoughts.

Graham
SMD is hardcore SPL that I know of, 4" coil... was going to have dual 11.25" slugs I think..double the BTL..but now has the Supargauss?

Not for HT i dont think

SMD is not set for HT use.... will Im sure it could be, it would have a very pronounced sag in the response between a reference efficiency point around 150Hz and the peak near tuning. Too low qts and Vas for anything useful for HT. This isnt quite as much a concern in autosound as it still occurs there to a lesser degree, but the vehicles acoustic response mucks things up far worse than a 3-4dB sag in response ever could.... but the benefits of the overall design far outweigh a perfectly flat anechoic response for monster daily driving systems.

Mayhem has worked for HT with a slight modification for some of our car audio dealers. Havocs will work fine in HT and I used to run one in my own system when I was prototyping the new versions a while back.

Thanks,
Scott

Scott,

One question, which I have asked on the SSA forum and here way back in some thread, but no one answered.

What's the generic xmech on the Q's/BTL's (I figure it's about the same due to the same basket, surround, vc od, spider od,etc... 35mm?) and is it the spider/ aka a soft bottom (I believe most of your designs are.)?

Thanks,

18s run out at about 3.25" and 12s and 15s at about 3". None of them get a chance to really bottom out mechancially at all. With the semi-cup progressive and the 12 spoke basket, all soft parts just start to pull hard right before they would contact the basket/top plate extension. It also depends on how many and of what spider material we use. People do get a 7 spider BTL pack to limit which is insane to me, but a good portion of people do not understand why it is so important to use a subsonic filter in ported applications for cars. Being yanked to mechanical limits off of a clipped signal 20Hz below tuning "to get more bass" often results in hitting those limits.

Mechanical limits would be the same for all series. The ability to hit those limits varies per speaker and option... a BTL with a 7 spider pack is easier to hit with the high Xmax coil than the standard shorter one. Being told to go too far and having the ability to do it in a more linear fashion makes hitting limits a wee bit easier.

Thanks,
Scott

The IB3 botoms hard and with little effort in my alignments :D It's extemely clean sounding and gives very little stress indicators before all a sudden WHACK! And it is ver very very loud! I never burn coils, I just can't get enough stupid low subsonics. 4X the air for every octave... I hate rules!

I like that you have shoping carts just for recones :D

Scott is the reason I do and will continue to buy from him. Every conversation I have had has been friendly and informative. I am very excited to hear about the HT specific brand!

Great products, pretty good pricing but really really slow response times. I think it has always been this way. 2 outta 3 ain't bad?

I have had this problem many times. I have actually spoken to Scott and he is a real nice guy. The products do speak for themself and I understand why they cant be at your beck and call all the time but if its a genuine enquiry then a quick response is the least that should be on offer.

I sourced my FI subs from a UK distributor called Blade Ice and Am singh has been an absolute treat. Always on call and gives advice when its needed. Without him I wouldn't have completed my subs. So I can see why some off you are a bit lost when you are building your subs in the USA and look on Scott and his fellows for advice and sometimes it takes a bit too long for them to get back to you.

I am surprised that there are no new builds with the new revised drivers as they offer a better smaller solution and work better.

cheers

Graham
