At last got my surround sound set up. A bit eclectic I know: Pioneer VSX-32, B&W floor standing speakers bi-amped, Klipsch subwoofer, Mitsubishi centre speaker, Jamo surrounds, Denon blu-ray and Toshibe Regza tv. Looks and sounds great, but I have Sony surround sound headphones with an optical connection, but when plugged into the optical out on the VSX-32 (which is why I went for that model in the first place) there is no sound. Does anyone here have a VSX-32 and know if the optical out can be used for headphones?

Thanks

They are DP-IF4000. There is an optical out on the TV and prior to the current set up they worked through that. But now they don't and I'm trying to figure out how to connect them. They also have an analogue input.

If the head phones are made to be used with an optical connection, the AVR shouldn't care what it sends the signal to.

You may have go into the menu of the AVR and tell it you want to use the optical out.
