I am a retired physicist who now spends his time doing math (geometric algebra), building computers (linux and hackintosh), reading science fiction, and improving my home theater. With regard to the latter the home theater consistes of -
Speakers - 2 x Original Carvers (Adcom GFA-555), 2 x B&W 600i (Adcom GFA-5300), JBL LSR2325P
Preamp - Emotiva UMC-200 (replaced UMC-1)
Settop box - Tivo Premiere XL4
Bluray player - Samsung BD-C5500
SACD player - Sony DVP-NS755V
Laser Disk Player - Pioneer CLD-2090
Turntable - Vestax BDT-2500
Open reel tape player - Crown SP-724
Home Entertainment Center - AMD Phenom 4 core/Nvidia Graphics/Ubuntu 13.04/XBMC/VLC
I am now trying to setup the speaker equalization with the UMC-200, but the EmoQ calibration does not detect my main speakers even though I can hear the test tone generated by the UMC-200. I am going to do the equalization by hand using a calibrated usb microphone (Parts Express) and the REW software on your website.
My other current audio-visual task is to reprogram my logitech harmony 1100 remote to use the UMC-200. The problem is that I have more inputs that hotkeys on the Emotiva remote. I think that this problem can be solved in that you (I hope) can change inputs on the UMC-200 with a single IR command. However, to issue that command with the UMC-200 remote control you need to press several buttons. I think if I press all the required buttons on the remote but the last one and then use the learning feature on the harmony remote I can input the reqired codes to access the optical and analog inputs on the Emotiva using the Harmony. I will let you know if this works. I would appreciate any comments from anyone who has allready solved this problem.
With regard to future speaker building I have from the early 1970's a pair of Altec 511b horns with the original drivers and a pair of Alatec 3000H tweeters. I would like to incorporate these components into some new diy speakers. Again any suggestions on the most suitable system design to use would be appreciated. Please note that no room in my house has two good corners. If they did I would have bought Klipschorns a while back.
