I installed the Linux version on FreeBSD. The installer worked fine.
But on start I get a message of not finding the mixer device(s). What device names does it expect?
And what is happening with pulseaudio as I get errors from there, too?

But of course if it is true that it won't work with OpenJDK, instead you need the Oracle JDK, I can give up immediately ...

Ok I can use the linux-sun-jdk but still it doesn't find the device

Thanks, but I don't understand what he's talking about and ALSA is not on FreeBSD.
Could you tell me what the Java calls are that are used to find devices and open them, play sounds etc. so I can see if it has any chance to work? Or did I miss the source code anywhere?

REW is not open source. The devices and associated inputs and outputs are obtained from the AudioSystem class, it is described here. Look at the sections on Service Provider Interfaces for a description of how the underlying hardware gets exposed to the AudioSystem class. Those are usually provided as part of the Java runtime. To see a list of all the audio devices, inputs and outputs Java can find on a system use the Generate Debug File button on REW's soundcard preferences.
