Well I was all happy cause I got a INUKE 3000, but when it arrived I see that it don't have the DSP, guess I should have paid more attention ( I thought they all had DSP ) any way , should I try to return this and get one with DSP , or use this one ?

it will have plenty of power to drive my subs, as far as the DSP goes ??? I only have the audyssey that my Onkyo 818 has , don't think it has the bass eq , but it seems that the DSP is what everyone is getting , so it must be good or better , cuz it has the eq built in to it

Your Onkyo has Audyssey XT32 so it does a good job on the sub. I would run Audyssey and try the amp and see if you like it. I think you will find it will do the job just fine.IMO.

All of those things will help us in determine if you need a High Pass Filter or not(The DSP has options for setting filters- plain Jane amp does not).

Pretty much- you're going to need a High Pass Filter, just looking up the wattage figures before hand.

Paul Pierce returned my email asking what YEAR the sub was built, not the EXACT year, but here is his question:
"pre 2009 used a 3" 4 layer coil and after 2009 they had a 3" 8 layer coil"

this will affect the TS parameters, so he needs to know if it's Pre or Post 2009....otherwise the info will be inaccurate.

You are going to need a High Pass filter, I don't know anything about that driver, so I don't know how many watts it'll take inside that enclosure before reaching XMAX.

I'll know within 5 minutes after he sends the T/S and I run it in WinIsd.

You say it's 4.3ft^3 ported tuned to 22hz? You know the port length/size by any chance, I'll check Port Velocity while I'm in there.

The ports are 3" dia x 2 per enclosure and are 18" long I think ( they are probably too small I can hear them huffing sometimes ) built these in 2006 with very limited knowledge

Why not just get a minidsp and a bump box. That is what I did and it works perfectly.

He sent me the T/S, but not the XMAX, so I have no clue what the excursion limit it. I also have no clue what they are rated at for power.

I ran WinIsd at 600W, and with a 4.3ft^3 box that has (2) 3"x18" ports, the port Velocity is really high at 40m/s @ 20hz (that box is tuned ~20.90 give or take).
With a 20hz Butterworth 2nd HPF, the Xmax is listed as 13.45 @ 17.55hz at 0 Degree coil temp, at 200*F it jumps up to 16.6mm
At 1000W the Xmax jumps to >21mm at 200*, with >60m/s port velocity.
No wonder you are hearing chuffing, doesn't seem like a good match to that box.

I've asked him for the XMax and Power rating of that driver.

I would probably just return the 3K and get the 3K DSP model, you CAN get a MiniDsp instead, but that will cost more, and is more involved(folks fight with those at times as well, the DSP in the iNuke is very simple, and no insertion loss).

With no HPF that driver will be over 35mm at 17....you'll find the cone on the other side of the room.

I am not trying to be argumentative but as far as needing a high pass filter I have a Danley DTS-10 and I have had it for a few years now and I have run it with the power suggested by Danley and I haven't used a HPF at all. Now do I think you shouldn't use one,no, but I think if you run the sub without it and run it through it's paces with no problems then it ,to me, isn't imperative to have one. That is just my opinion and if the amp you have makes your sub sound great to you without any issues then changing amps just for that reason could be spending money you don't have to. Now it might be because I have a very good sub that has been running without issue without a HPF and the sub you are running may well need it. Just my 2 cents.

The DSP version is $50 more than the standard amp, and it also has DEQ and PEQ functions to help smooth room response, so IMHO, it is worth the $50.

You can call Sweetwater on the phone instead of ordering it online, and ask for a discount, most folks seem to save ~ $30 or so by doing that on the 3KDSP, and more when ordering the 6K DSP.

I agree, for just $50 it is kind of a no-brainer. But if money is tight I think it is just an option. :T

The power rating is 1000w, and the Xmax was 75mm peak to peak (May be the mech Xmax )

OK, I got some info from Paul Pierce, he's been very helpful, and here is his info:

"Pe is rated at 1500 wrms and xmax (voice coil WW -gap/2) is 25mm unless that one has the shorter WW it would be 16mm. Look through the vent to see which you have. We dont use bl corrected xmax numbers. xmech is 74mm. "

Are the drivers in the cabinets? that's a pretty large disparity.

I would use a HPF myself, but you may be able to get away with some power- see my post above regarding excursion #'s I modeled in WinIsd.
