Hello,

Wanted to register here because I frequently get googled to threads on the forum, and sometimes I have followup questions.

I'm not as nuts about audio as I'd like to be, too many other expensive hobbies and expensive children.(and not enough discretionary income to really let loose)

Making do with SVS ultra bookshelf speakers and center for a 3.1 setup for now. WAF dictated a small white sub...hence the SB-1000 (poor little thing is overwhelmed). I will eventually figure out surrounds and maybe height speakers once the dust settles with room arrangements. No dedicated theater room obviously, just the main living room with horrible acoustics and open into the most of the house.

Thinking about the new SVS elevation, maybe I'll get/install a couple pair when the wife is on a business trip haha. What? Those? Shhh and listen to this...

I'm also on the hunt for a new cheap-ish sub. I've thought about trading up the Sb-1000 to the SB-2000 (small form factor is key for WAF). I've also thought about sneaking in a Rhythmik L12 instead. Should be a comparable choice to the Sb-2000 albeit I'm then "stuck" with the Sb-1000. I'll get the L12 as a "garage" sub but put it in the living room for extended testing :D

Main issue is WAF dictates all things must come in white. But ... the center is not in white, and the on display receiver/amp as well as the TV is not in white...so ya know I can probably make do with a black sub upgrade.

FWIW I don't require room filling HT bass, and in fact that would be a monumental challenge with my "room". I think it's something like 8000 cubic feet (or more) because it's all open. Living room, dining, entry way, kitchen, hallway to bedrooms. With that, at least the living room has a half wall to catch some of the waves. Listening position is not so bad.

We've toyed with the idea of ditching the living room setup in favor of a pretty 2 channel (think Sonus Faber 2.5 in white) with a nice record player. Put the theater stuff in the bedroom(!) since we usually watch stuff at night and like to lay about anyway. While it poses it's own challenges acoustically, it would be better. But I think that idea is losing traction (my wife's idea not mine). She doesn't like a TV centric shared space, which I tend to agree with. Better to make it conversational and a more pleasing arrangement.

Current L/C/R setup (TV is old and too small for viewing distance, pending upgrade). I've since routed the speaker wire through the stands as it should be.

I think I'm not allowed to post pics/URL's yet.

Also, if you have a completed Home Theater or Two-Channel system, get your first five posts out of the way and create a thread about your room! You can create Theater threads (here) and Two-Channel channel threads (here)! If you're designing and building, we have threads (Theater and Two-Channel) where you can feature your builds, too! It's a great way to share photos, ideas, and get feedback!
