Hello,
I am using a Velodyne sms-1 to equalize my subwoofer and I am trying to create a response curve that is close to a "hard knee house curve". Is it correct to shoot for the same perceived spl level at 30hz as at 80hz assuming my crossover is set to 80hz?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Basically, that’s the idea. You might also experiment with different low-freq shelving frequencies like 28 or 25 Hz and see if you the way those sound.

If you think it sounds lacking in the mid bass with a curve starting at 80 Hz, try using a more shallow curve. An easy way to accomplish this: 80 Hz would be perceived to sound a bit louder than the lower (shelving) frequency. This would functionally push the start of the slope up to 100 Hz or so (which of course would mean the main speakers were the contributing factor for the upper end of the curve).

Thanks Wayne!
I used to eq with a BFD and REW based upon many of your posts. You are the subwoofer eq guru.
I will try what you recommended. I have a harder time trusting the graph on the sms-1 because there is only one setting for smoothing.
