I recently just purchased a hk730 because I wanted a new set up from my all in one box turntable. I also got a brand new technics sl bd20d p mount turntable. When I hooked up the turntable to the phono I am getting a real loud needle noise. Some needle noise is fine but this isn’t the case. I cant turn the volume past noon without it really being unlistenable from the needle. My next question is Where should I go next diagnosing what to do? New cartridge? Pre amp? Any help our direction would be greatly appreciated

What cartridge is in the TT? The 730 is dedicated to a moving magnet input.

Are you asking if it’s moving magnet?I’m not sure.
That is what I was asking. Non-mm cartridges will do what you describe. Also, have you tried both Phono inputs?

I don’t think there is anything wrong with the phono channels though they sound clear when on standby. I’ve been looking at a brand new old A
