My name is Jason, I'm from Southeastern CT. I just joined with you folks about an hour ago and I've been looking around a bit. The forums are very detailed and quite organized, I'm glad I found The Shack.

I've been addicted to car audio since I was sixteen. I started off in the normal manner with the excessive bass and cheap components but after a couple years, I learned how enjoyable quality sound could be. I eventually learned to build my own enclosures and fabricated kick panels out of fiberglass. The equal path-length and imaging bug had bitten me. I no longer tried to build the loudest system, just the best sounding system.

I now have a family and a fairly nice first home, both of which pulled me out of the car audio world. I truly appreciate good music of any genre reproduced by quality components and I've missed that over the past few years. I'd also like to bring the entire family into my hobby.

I work as a Poker Floor Supervisor (occasional dealer) and through that line of work, I was afforded the opportunity to make some decent money working an event in the Bahamas this past January. While I was working those seventeen hour days, I couldn't stop thinking about the room I've been working on and all the new home theater products I was going to purchase.

My interests change with the seasons and I was already looking over the yard to plan this years outdoor projects... luckily we just got buried under a foot of fresh snow. So, back to the home theater project. I had placed an order with SVS last week for two MTS-01's Towers and a MCS-01 Center. As luck would have it, they were scheduled to arrive the day of the storm. I'm not a patient person when it comes to new toys so I feared the worst.

:yay2: Ups did show up and they didn't destroy the speakers! :yay2:

I've been listening since I hooked them up last night, my love of music is renewed. I'm here seeking more knowledge to improve my home theater and I look forward to the suggestions, comments and relationships I'm sure I'll find here.

Good evening to everyone, I'm headed out to work. :crying:

Welcome Jason. Great post. We are suffering here in Oklahoma with a blistery 64 degrees today with a warming trend to 80's Thursday! I am glad you like your SVSounds. Have fun. Dennis
Hello Jason, Welcome aboard!

Enjoy your stay with us.
Thank you all for the warm welcome!

I snuck out of work a bit early tonight and I'll be spending a few hours searching ths site and asking questions. It looks like there's so much this site has to offer, should keep me busy tonight.

Hey Jason...welcome & congrats on the new SVS Speakers. I'm new up here too and I'm also in Southeastern CT too.....Milford to be exact. I also recently made an SVS purchase...a PB13 Ultra Sub in Rosenut!

If you are eventually going to get a sub for your system....I highly reccomend the PB13.:T
Always nice to run into neighbors online Dave!

I appreciate the welcome!

The Ultra 13 is on my list but I had to be certain about the MTS Towers first. I thoroughly enjoy watching movies with 7.1 TrueHD but when I listen to music through 2ch analog direct, I won't compromise. The MTS-01's filled that bill nicely so now I can proceed with the sub, surrounds and a bit more construction in the room.

I could have purchased all the necessary speakers but the cost of the structural engineer plus the steel beam (removed a lolly column) ate up quite a bit of the budget.

I'm getting there though.

I hear the SVS subs arrive on a palet I'm guessing that's not UPS? Just curious as to how the sub gets from the truck to the house, I'll make sure I have a few friends over that day.:flex:

I called a freind. BAX Global was the delivery service. They put it right in my garage. I separated the box from the pallet before bringing it into my house....still about 150lbs. 2 guys makes this an easy task.

Yes hello and welcome. Jason, your pit job at the (SUN or Foxwoods?) sounds like a good gig. I hope there is job security there with all of this broken down economy stuff going on. I guess we could say we are neighbors being it is a large nation or even larger world and we live about 70 minutes away from ea other.

Dave we are even closer. Six minutes at the most. I am now asking myself why no GTG's? :foottap: I 'd like to hear the PB-13.:T:hsd:
Hey Bailman,

I'm at the Woods and we're at the bare minimum in terms of staff right now (at least that's what they tell me). I've seen many co-workers laid off.

In spite of the current markets, the room has been picking up over the past month. The tournaments aren't what they once were but I'm confident things will turn around soon. The only other option is a complete failure of the global economy. :gah:

70 minutes away? That's nothing! Wait a sec... that's drive down 95! I'll pass. I have NEVER made it from one end of the state to the other without some horrible delay on 95.

Yes we are very close. Wow!....and I should correct myself from above when I said that I was from South Eastern CT.....more like South Western but since it's such a small state..who cares...right?

The Ultra is really something special...and to think I haven't even dialed the thing in yet. Cannot wait!!!
Gonna try REW once I get the external soundcard for my laptop.

Yep thats exactly what I thought when I read it. I am located in the North End of Bpt. Close to ST V's.

Yes thats what I hear. I had two PB2+/2's but sold them. I wasn't happy with their musicality. They did dig deeeeep though.

So I've been procrastinating getting a laptop and running REW. Partly from fear and $$$. Any chance on a GTG. My wife claims I need friends.
I guess the global economy failing is a little over the top but you never know.

What exactly would we do at a GTG? I used to have meets for a car club
But I'm unsure of an agenda for a HT meet.

Suggestions?

What would be done @ a GTG? How does this sound?

Eat, drink, discuss current system and set up, evaluate, tweak, discuss, reevaluate, drink, eat... re-tweak. :T

Basically have a hands on learning curve with Dave's PB13 and REW on my BFD @ his house which he could use till he gets his own. See... I am not totally ready to jump in the REW game. Again, I don't have the bravery to get started. Its overwhelming to me. Bringing my BFD while participating in the whole setup process will be a good remedy for my fears. Plus I get to hang with people who are are as nuts :coocoo: as I am about AV.

Wait!! What am I saying. Dave and you should come to my place so we can:
Eat, drink, discuss current system and set up, evaluate, tweak, discuss, reevaluate, drink, eat... re-tweak. :T He could get more familiarised with the REW. This will only be possible if Dave brings the REW stuff. If he doesn't then its just eat, drink, discuss about what could've been tweaked which leaves more time for eating & drinking .

So here's the deal....I have REW on my wife's laptop but I am dead in the water till I can get an external soundcard to actually use it the right way. Working on this...

I'm actually holding off on the BFD until I see REW results. While I'm not expecting a flat room there may be a chance that the BFD will simply not get me that much more. Then again... if there are dips and peaks all over the place then I will be on EBAY looking to buy in a heartbeat.

A few years ago I had a Definitive technology Supercube Reference sub in the back corner of my room so it was nearfield and I had the Velodyne SMS-1 on it...which was very easy to use. I did have some peaks and dips to tame with this sub..but I now have no SMS-1 and the PB13 Ultra is in the front right corner of my room.

Here's a link to my setup for anyone interested in a look:

That's a nice set-up you have there!

So, you send 325 watts to all your speakers? WOW! No wonder you needed something like the SVS sub to match that much high end.

I'm a bit embarrassed to post pics of my HT at this point because I was unsure of how to finish the front wall with the TV and bulky built in type cabinet I "half" finished. I now know what I'm going to do up front so I may post some before and after pics. I'll be giving the room a face lift tomorrow.

I'm not familiar with the Pioneer model numbers so is your current TV a Kuro? I found the Kuro line just after I purchased my Sony XBR. The Kuro was rated better than the Sony on CNET but it was also quite a bit more expensive. I was also leery of Plasma because I KNOW my younger son would leave a game on the screen for great lengths of time.

Ya..the Earthquake Cinenova's are just awesome. It's 325 per channel and that's with all 5 channels driven at same time. There are literally 5 monoblocks encased in the shell of this unit....absolute beast!!!!!:yikes:

Yes..the TV is a KURO. The 5080 is an 8G model and it is a 768p set that will accept a 1080p/24 signal from my Blu Ray player. At 9 feet the 768p model was all we needed and I caught this set on Sale at BB last year. Saved thousands by going with the 768p set. Unfortunatly they only make 1080p sets now.
Here's what I have so far, very far from done but at least I know what direction I'll be taking now that I have the speaker placement issue solved. If I can drag the table saw outside tomorrow, get to Home Depot (and they have what I need) and it's not so cold I can't feel the blade nick my finger... I may have a totally new look up front.
