My name is Jason, I'm from Southeastern CT. I just joined with you folks about an hour ago and I've been looking around a bit. The forums are very detailed and quite organized, I'm glad I found The Shack.

I've been addicted to car audio since I was sixteen. I started off in the normal manner with the excessive bass and cheap components but after a couple years, I learned how enjoyable quality sound could be. I eventually learned to build my own enclosures and fabricated kick panels out of fiberglass. The equal path-length and imaging bug had bitten me. I no longer tried to build the loudest system, just the best sounding system.

I now have a family and a fairly nice first home, both of which pulled me out of the car audio world. I truly appreciate good music of any genre reproduced by quality components and I've missed that over the past few years. I'd also like to bring the entire family into my hobby.

I work as a Poker Floor Supervisor (occasional dealer) and through that line of work, I was afforded the opportunity to make some decent money working an event in the Bahamas this past January. While I was working those seventeen hour days, I couldn't stop thinking about the room I've been working on and all the new home theater products I was going to purchase.

My interests change with the seasons and I was already looking over the yard to plan this years outdoor projects... luckily we just got buried under a foot of fresh snow. So, back to the home theater project. I had placed an order with SVS last week for two MTS-01's Towers and a MCS-01 Center. As luck would have it, they were scheduled to arrive the day of the storm. I'm not a patient person when it comes to new toys so I feared the worst.

:yay2: Ups did show up and they didn't destroy the speakers! :yay2:

I've been listening since I hooked them up last night, my love of music is renewed. I'm here seeking more knowledge to improve my home theater and I look forward to the suggestions, comments and relationships I'm sure I'll find here.

Good evening to everyone, I'm headed out to work. :crying:

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

I snuck out of work a bit early tonight and I'll be spending a few hours searching ths site and asking questions. It looks like there's so much this site has to offer, should keep me busy tonight.

Always nice to run into neighbors online Dave!

I appreciate the welcome!

The Ultra 13 is on my list but I had to be certain about the MTS Towers first. I thoroughly enjoy watching movies with 7.1 TrueHD but when I listen to music through 2ch analog direct, I won't compromise. The MTS-01's filled that bill nicely so now I can proceed with the sub, surrounds and a bit more construction in the room.

I could have purchased all the necessary speakers but the cost of the structural engineer plus the steel beam (removed a lolly column) ate up quite a bit of the budget.

I'm getting there though.

I hear the SVS subs arrive on a palet I'm guessing that's not UPS? Just curious as to how the sub gets from the truck to the house, I'll make sure I have a few friends over that day.:flex:

Hey Bailman,

I'm at the Woods and we're at the bare minimum in terms of staff right now (at least that's what they tell me). I've seen many co-workers laid off.

In spite of the current markets, the room has been picking up over the past month. The tournaments aren't what they once were but I'm confident things will turn around soon. The only other option is a complete failure of the global economy. :gah:

70 minutes away? That's nothing! Wait a sec... that's drive down 95! I'll pass. I have NEVER made it from one end of the state to the other without some horrible delay on 95.

I guess the global economy failing is a little over the top but you never know.

What exactly would we do at a GTG? I used to have meets for a car club
But I'm unsure of an agenda for a HT meet.

Suggestions?

That's a nice set-up you have there!

So, you send 325 watts to all your speakers? WOW! No wonder you needed something like the SVS sub to match that much high end.

I'm a bit embarrassed to post pics of my HT at this point because I was unsure of how to finish the front wall with the TV and bulky built in type cabinet I "half" finished. I now know what I'm going to do up front so I may post some before and after pics. I'll be giving the room a face lift tomorrow.

I'm not familiar with the Pioneer model numbers so is your current TV a Kuro? I found the Kuro line just after I purchased my Sony XBR. The Kuro was rated better than the Sony on CNET but it was also quite a bit more expensive. I was also leery of Plasma because I KNOW my younger son would leave a game on the screen for great lengths of time.

Here's what I have so far, very far from done but at least I know what direction I'll be taking now that I have the speaker placement issue solved. If I can drag the table saw outside tomorrow, get to Home Depot (and they have what I need) and it's not so cold I can't feel the blade nick my finger... I may have a totally new look up front.

Thank you Mark, I can't begin to tell you folks how great is to be here. It's very relaxing and enjoyable here at The Shack plus there's a ton of great info from really nice people.

Dave, I'm running my Sony STR-DA5400ES to the SVS Towers. Sounds beautiful but I still question my receiver in terms of sound quality. Am I hearing all there is to hear or can it get even better than this. Just second guessing myself.

I added some pics to my project page, it's coming along fairly well. Almost time for the Ultra 13.

Both of you not so snowy anymore CT members...
You were saying?

I woke up to rain today and concluded that I would not be sanding the birch plywood I cut oh so perfectly yesterday. I looked outside a little later and saw the ice pellets coming down and now I'm looking out at huge flakes covering the yard and everything else outside.:thud::duh::gah: That should cover it.

I do have a fairly nice project coming together though. The corners of the room up front look nice, I'll try to post a pic before I leave for work in an hour.

I've just been adding pics to the thread I started in the HT construction area. The link is in one of my posts on page one of this thread.

Yes, no more winter wonderland but there's just enough snow in my driveway to slip on or get into shoes and then tracked in the house (kids). The weekend was so pleasant with the sun and warm temps, I CAN'T WAIT!!!

Last night, I tried a new paint color for the HT. I've had primer on the walls in all the pics so far and I really wanted to see the color I picked out on the walls. :scratchhead: was what I was doing after opening the paint can. The color is by Ralph Lauren and it's called "hotel room" which makes sense to me since it was fairly close to the color at the Marriot in Boston. It's supposed to be a VERY dark hue of purple/burgundy but after popping the cover off, it just looked purple. I was going for an ominous look and I should have stuck with my original choice of "approaching storm" which was that grey/purple/black the sky turns just before a serious storm. Looks like I need three coats just before I can get a real sense of the color. Oh well, that's really all I can do today anyway.
