Help with finding specs for Nakamichi sub

I have a 10" Nakamichi sub that I used briefly in my car. Would like to use it for a home theatre sub diy project. The sub has a cast frame, dual voice coil, shiny aluminum bottom, vented etc. Looks to be very well built but I have no specs for it. Where can I look for parameters... googled for hours and came up with nothing. HELP.

Found the specs.. It is the SP-W1000D...

That is a fairly high Fs (34 Hz) for a home theater sub -- although not too bad for a 10" driver. A DIY sealed project with Linkwitz curve used in a small listening room might work out ok.

Can you recommend an ideal 10" sub for a small sealed enclosure? Sound quality and enclosure size are my priorities.

And yes, the room is somewhat small.

Effective Diaphragm Area (Sd): 33.006 sq. meter

That's one big 10 inch sub! I imagine it must be 330 cm2.

What exactly is your budget? Also, what kind of SPL and low reach are you looking for?

There are some extremely high quality 10" drivers (and even 8" ones that will outperform most 10" and some 12" drivers), but they are not cheap and will require large amounts of power to be equalized properly.

No exact budget.... maybe 800$ with an amp, EQ and enclosure. No idea in terms of SPL. I have a small room and want high SQ versus room shaking bass. For the amp, I'm buying a QSC PLX2402 - used. Enclosure won't be anything fancy... simple sealed box.

I have looked at the 10" Dayton drivers. Those seem quite nice - same with the CSS. Does anyone have experience with the Daytons?

If you spend some time bargain hunting, and depending on how much you pay for the amp, you might be able to fit the following suggestion in your budget or slightly above it.

Use a JL 8W7 in a sealed box 0.7 cubic feet after bracing and driver displacement are accounted for. Place 2" of OC705 or 8lb mineral wool behind the driver and on the bottom of the cabinet. Do make sure to cover the damping material to prevent stray fibers from effecting driver performance.

The 8" W7 series driver is extremely linear and will outperform most 10" subwoofers and many 12" units. Since the amplifier you are looking at is rated to a high power output this will be of benefit with the JL since it is a lower sensitivity unit and requires power to use its full potential.

Thanks Andrew. I'll have a look at the JL 8" and others. I used to use them in my car.

Can someone explain to me, in laymans terms, what Fs and Qts to look for in a home subwoofer. I've read the lower the Fs and Qts the better.
