HPF

I just built two CSS Trio 12s sealed and need to add a HPF. I encountered a pop while watching Iron Man 2, which i believe is the sub reaching cone excursion. Which HPF would you guys recommend. I have the PE Bash 500s amps. I know these can be modified but not sure i want to go this route. Will modifying the amp void the warranty.

If you have the budget, I highly recommend a MiniDSP. It gives you a ton of flexibility - and you can accurately set the filter down to the hz, and pick the slope........ And adjust it on the fly.

Since the PE BASH500s already have an HPF, I would make sure you understand what HPF setting they are set for before introducing additional filtering. Older ones had a higher default HPF while newer ones supposedly default to a lower (and generally more useful) frequency.

Actually, in re-reading the original post...

How large is the enclosure? 500w doesn't sound like a lot of power for 2 drivers. If it's a smaller enclosure, there should be some air cushion to prevent you from bottoming out the driver..

Iron Man 2 has some really hot LFE that I've almost pushed a 21" Maelstrom to the max with -- during the flight sequence early on.

Is this the amp we're talking about?

This was from a post in 2010, not sure which version it applies to:
The 500W Parts Express has 2.55dB of boost centered at 36.2Hz with a F3 of 29.5Hz in it's default configuration. And it's believed to have a second order rolloff.

The OP has built two sealed enclosures each with a BASH 500s.

More recent posts (late 2011) talk about a resistor change effectively eliminating the boost and moving the HPF to 17.3 Hz.
Yes each 50l enclosure has a bash 500s. Thanks guys for the help. The gain on each amp is only on the second mark. Going to order the resistors to put the hpf at 18.7 hz. Hope this will help.
