How bad would it affect performace if the IB box was built with a reduction to the mouth? Say I used 2 - 15" IB subs, and the box was 12" x 18", but the mouth was only 12" x 12" (available space for hole in the ceiling).
Would this just be asking for trouble?

No way to get more space? I would think you would have some issues, possibly with back pressure:dontknow: or maybe it wanting to act like a huge bandpass box. Sorry i've got no good answer for you but i'm sure someone will step in and help.:T

I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you look at some of the early IB's built by Nousaine, et al. the manifold openings were TINY compared to what you are considering.

Also, I've seen reports of one user who narrowed down the mouth to test the effect of what you are planning to do, and saw no change in the response until it was a tiny slit.

Once again. Don't worry about it. IB manifolds function as a compression driver, not a direct radiator.
