Hi Guys

Sorry for this stupid question.

I have a mic… it says: cal 1090imp. I got is years ago from (I think) Peter Stein from Modular Electronics. I think it is good…what do I know.

I read the mic section and it confused me. Not wanting to buy another mic, as I have one…. Can I hook this one up?

It has 2 RCA and I have attached a cord to make it into a 3.5” stereo plug.

I run a tosh link from the PC to my passive pre, then into a Little Dot DAC, then into an Aphex (graphic eq. and electronic X-over are not in the sequence yet) then into a stereo amp. All XLR connectors.

Is this OK or do I need more stuff?

Do I plug it (mic) into the back of my PC? I have gigabyte X79-UD7 that is supposed to have a good sound.

Do not really understand using one channel? So I need some form of XLR splitter/combiner?

I did read the instructions, but my mic did not seem to fall into the options. Yes I am still very green - so it totally confused me.

You didn’t say, but I expect you want to use the mic for REW measurements? Typically only condenser mics with small capsules are best suited for taking measurements. From your description, it’s doubtful that mic fits in that category. Not to mention, I assume you have no idea what its frequency response is? You’d have to know that in order to create a calibration file, which is needed for accurate frequency response measurements.

Bottom line, even if you can figure out how to get this mic to work, there’s not much chance that any measurements you get will be especially valid or useful.

Yes mate for REW measurements. I have an old pair of 2-way speakers (in box) with no x-over. So was hoping to use the graphic equaliser and electronic cross over to make the work.

Mic is about 40cm long and 8mm in diameter. ?? I am assuming the "cal 1090 imp" refers to some calibration file?? Or is that too obvious? Just for some fun will it work if I plug it into the sound card? I do not to break the PC as it is my livelihood.

Looks like I have to buy a mic….the one from miniDSP????

I have been watching and watching the video from GIK about Room EQ Wizard: REW Room Measurement Tutorial.

I am totally confused…. Assuming I get a new mic…. It starts off:

• Phantom power - ? do I have it? How to turn on?
• Calibrate the sound card? The icon he clicks on is greyed out on my programme
• Output device and Input device. Default?? Not sure what the drop down things mean. I was thinking input (mic) output (speakers)?
• Loop back on audio device….. totally do not understand. Where and how

I keep watching the video. I even downloaded it….

Help
