Both Onkyo and Denon's new 2011 products at this price point ($1K) looks attractive. Yamaha too with its Aventage but more focused on the others here with both sportin Audyssey MultEQ XT. Onkyo with its THX Select 2 sure makes some great features closer to wife friendly territory. I e-mailed tech support at Onkyo to see if the receiver can be upgraded to Audyssey Pro. Seems like all the "installer ready" calibrations with most are the MultEQ XT version. Great power too i'm seeing with each product : )

So, what's the opinion here: TX-NR709 or AVR-3312CI????

Update: via Onkyo tech support e-mail...The new 709 cannot support Audyssey Pro. Bummer!

Fully agree, to me spending this amount vs. 2K is a whole lot easier when trying to pass it thru the wifey. For some unknown reason this price point is so much more attractive and so many more options that are easier for wife factoring, imo.

Hello,
With a 1000 Dollar Budget, I would look at last years AVR's and get a 2000 Dollar AVR heavily discounted for around the same money as either of those models. Examples include Onkyo's 2100 Dollar TX-NR3007 which is available for 849 from Accessories4less. If interested in Denon, Dakmart has a huge selection of Denon AVR's.

Unless 3D is important to you, I would highly recommend looking at a HDMI 1.3 AVR. Judging by the recent Survey, the number of people who are interested in 3D is unbelievably low. So low that Manufacturers are now taking down Displays of 3D and are not marketing 3D as a Feature as opposed to a groundbreaking new technology.
Cheers,
JJ

Hello,
As to the 709 not supporting Audyssey Pro, only MultEQ XT and XT32 equipped AVR/SSP's can be upgraded to Audyssey Pro. Unfortunately, Onkyo has decided to only allow the Integra versions of the AVR/SSP's support Audyssey Pro last I checked.

I used not to be this way with the TX-SR805, 875, 905, 876, and 906 were all able to be upgraded to Pro. When the 3000 Series were released, for whatever reason, they decided no longer to offer this option. Pretty sure it was done to further justify the added expense of the Integra Components even though they were pretty close to identical to the Onkyo Model they are based off.
Cheers,
JJ

Thanks for the info on accessories website, that pretty much nails it when I upgrade. I would be a fool to not jump on one of those mosters (3007)

Thanks again!!! Man, I learn something every single day here and learn so many different avenues to great products.
