Is there a method for trying out speaker placements

Hey,
I am about to continue with my work on REW and I am wondering if there is a method or a strategy when it comes to moving speakers around and changing the location of the LP. My guess would be pulling it out/ farther from the wall would be a good starting place. And possibly toying with toe in? Anyway, im hoping some of you that have had success can give me some tips. Thank you

If your room is rectangular you can get an idea of positions to try using REW's room simulator.

To get live feedback while moving speakers or mic location play Pink PN (Periodic Noise) on REW's signal generator and watch the response on the RTA using these settings:
