Just wondering if there is a plate amp out there that can legitimately power a maelstrom x or an rlp 18?

You'd still have some available power handling, but the best I know of is the Elemental Designs LT/1300. 1300 watts into 4 ohms. Would still recommend a bit more.

I don't know of a plate amp that is really sufficient for these drivers either.

As an alternative solution, technically, you could make a self enclosed space in the back and install a rack mount professional amplifier into the sub cabinet. Just be sure to build in an air vent tunnel in the back of the space to interface with the back side of amplifier fan exhaust and route said tunnel to fold back and exit at the back of the sub. If you need a crossover also, it's easy to go ahead and increase the height of the space and include a low cost rack mount xover.
