Just to re-iterate what others have said really,

Of course you can, but as always, your limited to the drivers abilities, and its no good sticking a driver in an uber cabinet to try get more than that driver can deliver. Really, if your have targets and design requirements, you should try source a driver that suits your requirements. If you have drivers lying around, you can use them, but you need to remember its limits and work to those. The beauty of doing it yourself though is that your dont have to cut corners anywhere because of profit margins, and thats were we have a unique advantage.

Roger wilco on that... just got to figure out where I'm going to do the cutting and router work...
If you can figure out your panel sizes before you buy the MDF, your supplier will usually cut those for you for a fairly insignificant cost. That would just leave you the driver and amp cut outs to do which are a bit easier to do at home as you no longer have to deal with the cutting up of a full size sheet of MDF.
