i have been repairing consumer electronics for over 25 years.these two sets have me stumped.i am beginning to think something in the service menu has the audio muted.

Have you identified the mute line? Do you have the service literature?

not sure what you mean by the mute line.i do have the service manual with all schematics.both of these sets are same model with identical symptom no audio anywhere.swapping boards between sets produces no audio.probing with signal tracer i cannot find audio anywhere.that's why i think audio is turned off somewhere in service menu.

What you are saying does not make sense. If there is no audio anywhere, you have no input to the set.

If you think that something is causing the audio to be muted, you have to identify the path by which components are given a mute command, trace it back to the source and determine whether that is the case. What kind of consumer electronics have you been servicing?
