They do run pretty warm. Should be hot but not too hot to touch. If so, check the d.c. offset and center it if off.

Vertical convergence correction is done using waveforms at horizontal rates. Higher frequencies to amplify means more heat. I do not recall if these sets had all of the vertical channels in one chip or not. As I recall, both chips run at similar temps in these sets. One is likely being driven harder. Read the posts in the convergence thread very carefully. There is a discussion there about heat and about how adjustments can affect it.
