My nearly 7 year old 42311 loses picture for an hour up to a few days but the audio keeps working. The video will abruptly return and be fine until it disappears again. The convergence chips have been replaced twice-once under warranty during it's first year and again in the Spring of 2007. I am unable to get any led error sequence that I have seen requested in other posts.

I know the chassis slides out to access the boards but how do I do that?

Maybe I am answering my own question here but I found a down loadable copy of the service manual online. It showed me the screws that still needed to be removed to slide the chassis out. From there I reseated every cable and put the unit back together. It powered up with picture so I don't know if there was oxidation on one of the connectors perhaps or if it was just time for the set to start working again.

Likely a bad solder connection, possibly at the vertical output IC or at the deflection yokes, could also be some capacitors aging out, or lots of other stuff. The next step is some troubleshooting.

Icaillo, Do you recommend I go in there and try resoldering the areas you mention now or wait till the set loses the picture again? If that does not do the trick what troubleshooting steps would you take? Thanks for your input.

I would resolder those areas.

Specific troubleshooting is beyond the scope of this forum. We can offer general information and common symptom-repair relationships that are well known without much of the mis-information you find elsewhere, but step-wise troubleshoting requires research on a specific model and extensive time.
