I posted a while back about building a sonotube, (which I may still do once my theater is done) but for now I wanted to build something a little smaller for my living room. I decided on NEODAN's easy button max design for the time being. I have no previous woodworking skills, but I'm fairly handy. It will be powered by a EP2500. I've read through NEODAN's thread a few times, but I don't think I ever found what the final tune was for the box in it's MAX configuration. Anybody know?

So, it has been a few years since I worked with MDF. I forgot how much I hate it. :) I really should have had on a mask. I used a table saw to cut up 2 sheets of 3/4" MDF. (bonus! I got home and looked at the receipt, they charged me for 1/2" mdf)

I am not known for having a neat work area. Plus I'm in the middle of replacing all my windows, a little but of siding, and new trim on the inside. All while building this sub and trying to get my theater done in the next couple years.

Gen II Maelstrom X I just got.

I plan on getting a jasper jig for my future projects. (When I'm done with everything else I'd like to build some statements for my LCR.) In the meantime, I just built my own circle jig.

Of coarse I broke my cutting bit with only a little but left to go. I think I may have tried to cut too much. I did 2 passes and should have done 3. I finished the cut with my jigsaw.

I don't have a lot of clamps, so I had to make due. This is sitting out in my driveway right now.

I'm going to build the exact same thing, with an EP2500, Reckhorn SSF @ 12Hz (lowest setting), and Samson S-converter (gain) in the future. I have everything, but not the space nor time to complete the build yet.

Keep us posted! Round all the edges of the port. :)
I just ordered the 1.25" roundover bit last night. I also ordered a 5/8" roundover for all the edges. I plan on finishing this in a DIY bedliner since eventually it will be in my HT behind a AT screen.

I haven't decided yet on a SSF and EQ. I'll probably end up with a BFD for eq, but still wondering about a SSF.

Last 2 pictures. I can't do anything else until I get my router bit.

Glued up one more side.

Couldn't help but dry-fit the rest of the pieces except the one side and the front baffle.

The tuning will be in the low teens. I thought I read somewhere that if the tuning is extremely low a SSF isn't needed. Is that true?

Almost done! All I have left is the front baffle. I'll take care of that tomorrow. I just ordered a EP2500 and a Mic2200 from B&H. I will eventually get a BFD, but since I'm not ready for it to go in it's permanent place, I'll just wait and save the cash. Here's a pic after I just the top on. On a side note, I tried to move this around on the horses....this thing is crazy heavy. Not including the 50lb driver that will be in it.

Just glued on the front baffle. It's the last piece of the puzzle. I almost screwed up everything at the end. I was using an electric plane to level the front before I glued on the baffle. Well I got too close to the edge and blew out a big chunk of MDF. I'm attempting to glue the layers back on. (that's why there are 3 clamps going across the bottom.) I hope it works out OK. It really isn't that big of a deal since the sub will be hidden behind the screen, but I wanted it to look presentable. Again this thing is a bear to move around. I'm guessing once the driver is in, the final weight will be around 175-200lbs.

I'm done! Sort of... I'm done building, rounded all the edges, I put on feet, predrilled all the mounting hole, and I gouged out the mdf by the port.... ! I was trimming the edges with the router and didn't even think of the port and gouged out a little groove. The last minute I messed it up. Actually it really isn't that big of a deal since the sub will eventually be behind a false screen wall and it won't be seen. Tomorrow my buddy is coming over and we will mount the driver and lug this big guy in the house to test it out. I still need to buy the pillows and paint it.

My screwup!

I'm all done except for paint, but I couldn't help but try it out. I must say it is a great improvement over my old yamaha 8" 80watt sub. :) It seems that my old sony avr has a pretty weak signal. I have to turn the output up a ways on my mic2200. My wife is getting pretty tired of me watching Iron Man, Cloverfeld, and the end of Kung Fu Panda over and over. :)

My daughter found a new toy.

This is her Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka impression!

I noticed that in the pics too. I could put the sub on my entertainment center and mount the TV to the side if the sub!

This sub wasn't meant for this room, but my theater isn't done yet.
