Odd question about my Receiver....

This is an odd question so bear with me on this one. I have a Yamaha RX-Z7 (non 3-D) receiver that I purchased early last summer. About 3 months later, Yamaha comes out with Aventage series that is 3D. I currently have a Panasonic Bluray player that has 2 hdmi outputs which still allows hd sound to be sent to the amp, not in analog. But I want to get rid of the annoyance of have to switch everything manually when I want to watch a movie. I have Best Buys service plan and my question is what can I do to the amp which would render it unrepairable? Obviously it would have to be something as to not look like I blatantly destroyed it. If it's deemed unrepairable, Best Buy's plan would cover a replacement. cutting open a power cable, connecting the frayed ends to the amp/speaker outputs and plugging it into an electrical outlet? I don't want to burn the house down

A macro programmable remote would be my suggestion. As for the rest of your post...
Your defiantly in the wrong forum as we do not recommend intentionally damaging something so that you can exchange the unit. Its people like yourself that drive the cost up for everyone else.

Hello,
While the Aventage Series is HDMI 1.4, your Z7 is a much more expensive and better built AVR. I would much rather have the stronger Amplifier Stage in the Z Series and having to switch Inputs on just one Source some of the time.

Moreover, with so few 3D Blu-Rays available and the format not really gaining wide adoption, at least 90% of BD's you own or rent are going to be 2D and can be run through the Yamaha without switching TV Inputs. And the 90% figure is quite optimistic as it truly is closer to 99% of BD's being non 3D.

Yamaha's Z Series are truly classics and are simply in another league than even the Aventage A3000/3010. The only advantage to the A3000 is the superior Video Processor (HQV Vida) As the Z7 originally retailed for north of $5000, it should be in another league than the sub $2000 A3000. I suppose if it really bothers you, the Z7 can always be placed for sale on Audiogon, Craigslist, Ebay, and we have a free Classified Subforum as well. I still think it would be a major downgrade for a feature that is doing so poorly in the Home Theater arena that 3D has simply become a value added feature.
Cheers,
JJ

Wal92tt, thank you very much for making my evening! I have not had a laugh like that in quite a while! I was reading intently up until I got to "What can I do to render the unit effectively unrepairable" and I knew that I was in for a kicker! I highly doubt that you will receive any advice on how to destroy such a magnificent device on this forum and surely hope that you were just bored and decided to do a little trolling...
