I purchased an Optoma hd66 about 1 year 4 months ago. The projector has began to show white spots on the screen. I have googled it and see that it is a common problem with dlp projectors. What is it, what causes it, and how can I get rid of it. None of the other reviews, I have seen, mentioned a cause or cure.

Are they pixel size? If so the dmd chip could be at fault. If they are larger, I would guess dust.

I would not categorize the dmd chip problem as common. Dust probably would be though. But that's not a problem with the technology.

White dots are usually a defect in the DMD. It is not unheard of in many dlp projectors, but is not extremely common. Changing a DMD chip is not rocket science, but with a projector usually requires lots of dissassembly and alignment can be critical. Getting the part may be next to impossible.
