I think its the Y sub board. or am I wrong? I found into online that says when this happens it's the Y board.

powr light flashes 2 times and then pauses then flashes 3 times over and over again. only flashes twice once then after that it's the 3 flashes over and over again. when i unplug it and plug it back in standby comes on. then i hit power the screen comes on for a few secs then it goes off and the power light starts flashing.

I was reading on a web page that when it flashes twice then its the x board and if it flashes three times it's the y board.

only found that info on one page. i want to make sure it's right before i order the part.

other web pages ware saying the x board. so i want to make sure that 3 lights means the y board. or do i go by the first set of two flashes?

ok, now know the problem. The power supply board i just swapped out with another Puffy capacitored board and bam came right on. Just a recap, i tried the other power board before i changed the sdr-d board and put the new capacitors on and it would come on for a sec and kick off and blink 3 times. Please advise, JM
I am not sure what advice you are asking for. Can you clarify?
Sorry guys I dripped a piece of solder on the board on one small chip and luckly able to remove the solder and put back in and it came on no problem. Once again i would like to thank everyone on this board for you all help me learn how to repair this. Thank you, Justin
I am having this same problem, bought the cap's and it took forever for them to get here and did a quick swap. Now it kicks the fans on and the power button lights up but no picture.Going to resolder and check it again.I could sure use some help with this one.
Hi everyone, First post.

I have read through the string of "blue power light flashing 3 times". My set (P50S601) is doing the some thing.

Here is what I have done so far.

1. Read the entire post
2. Disconnected both SDR boards. Result was the set powered up!!!
3. No burned chips on either board. Upper board resistance on caps was open(Meg ohmes) on all caps except one set was 38 ohmes.
4. Replaced lower board. Result was set powered up.
5. With a VOM, I tested all power supply voltages. All were normal! Believe CAPS are good!!
6. Removed the lower SDR, Reinserted the Upper SDR. Result was Blue light flashing 3 times.
7. My assumption was Upper SDR was bad.
8. Bought a used SDR board from EBAY.
9. Inserted the new SDR board. Set power up but got horizontal lines across the top 1 inch of the screen.
10. Per thread I reseated the ribbon a number of times but did not clear the lines from the top 1 inch.
11. I assumed a bad SDR board from EBAY.
12. I watched the set fo about 6 Hrs like this..........Then heard a POP and 3 blinking blue lights.
13. I remover the upper SDR board and yes the set powers up.

Question: Is there anything (other than the panal itself) that could fry the SDR board? I dont suspect the Y board since I have no vertical lines and only the top 1 inch is affected.

What is my next logical move.....Get a new SDR board????

sounds like your PDP is toast. I had a pn51d550 that I did the same thing to 4 times - 1 time the display came up with distorted video on bottom 4" of display. then hours later it popped. Put another Y sustain board in and it popped. I threw the set away. These samsungs are junk

I am guessing it was still an issue with the ribbon cable not being right for the sdr board. I had to fight and fight to get mine to look normal. It took a long time to get the lines out. The power supply could still be bad, or the caps if there is any swelling and with the heat of this set could be changing the voltage as the set heats up, or the y sus board could be bad making it pop the sdr board. There was a service bulletin put out for this set saying to replace the power supply and the y sus board as well as any bad sdr boards for this issue. they were saying to replace them all. But most of us were finding replacing the two swollen caps in the power supply took care o the issue and we didn't need to replace everything. But your set could have a bad y sus board or a bad power supply. Those caps don't cost a lot so you may want to try them. but if you get any lines in the video this time don't keep using it turn it off and try to find the issue or I am thinking your going to just burn out another sdr board.

OK... Thanks for the feedback.

I thinked I worked for an hour or so to get the flat ribbon cables in correctly. The second and third cable had no issues. I tried every way I could to get the lines out on the top ribbon. Each attempt the lines were EXACTLY the same. How reliable are the flat panals themselves. There was no banging or bumping (to cause damage) to this panal. If we think the flat panal could be the problem, there is no fixing that! The cost to repair is getting up there.

USED SDR $60
USED Y-SUS $125.
Caps $20
The bonding of the cables to the panel can be a problem but not nearly as likely as a problem with the cable itself or its insertion and the connector.
