Did you check the related resistors and fuses, resolder the many weak solder joints on the convergence, deflection, and power supply boards? Pioneer sets are notorious for having dozens of cracked solder joints on each board. This can cause other failures, including convergence amps. Read the first ten posts in the convergence repair thread very carefully.

thanx : )

I'll pull it all out again and recheck.

Didn't see any damaged parts on the deflection board...all resistors look perfect but there are a couple of bits of heat discoloration around a core near the big transformer and the before mentioned diode on the power board. I'm thinking my problem is likely on there though I hope it did not additionally blow the new ic's :foottap: I can get my hands on a refurb power assy for $149 which could be a better way to go...
I never make any assumptions about a pioneer before resoldering dozens of connections. A refurb board may still need considerable soldering.

This standby problem always happened after cycling the power button within a few minutes of switch on/off. Would that indicate a power supply problem as opposed to convergence?

thanx again....hope I can raise it from the dead!
