Problems with Input and Ouput SB Live

I have an internal SBLive card. It's the only sound card in the computer.

When I try to calibrate my card, I get a message " SPL Meter Audio Input Not Available".

On the REW setting page, I set the input and output as default, and I also tried other settings, but nothing seems to work. All I can seem to get is error messages.

Did you look through this thread ? I know it's for the external card, but the application data is the same......

Does REW recognize the card in the Settings page for selection as Input and Output?

Tell me about the loopback cable you're using for the soundcard calibration?

Can you post a picture of your Windows Playback and Record mixers?

I looked through that thread and a few others briefly, but the problem is different I think.

Does REW recognize the card in the Settings page for selection as Input and Output?

The setting page shows the card in the drop down boxes along with Default and java. If I select the SB card for the output, it gives me an "output device error". If I select the SB card for the input, it gives me an "input device error". The drop down boxes under both are grayed out.

Tell me about the loopback cable you're using for the soundcard calibration?

I don't think the loop back cable is the problem. I get the same messages without the cables,

Can you post a picture of your Windows Playback and Record mixers?

How do I copy the screen?

Hit “Control” and “Print Screen” simultaneously, then paste into Paint. Save to a file, then edit as needed in whatever picture editing program you have. Typically the picture has to be shrunk down to 800 x 800 or less in order to upload here (see here for details on that). Or, you can upload it to your own server and post the link, or put the link in image tags to show it on your post.

This is what I get when I start REW. After I click OK, I get the same message for input.

Your card isn't being recognized by REW for some reason.

You should be able to control the card with Windows though.

Select DEFAULT for both Input and Output and use the Windows mixers to control the setup levels and see how that goes.

Below are the Windows Playback and Record settings from my system.

It shows the two mixers and their interaction with REW. See how that goes...

Try selecting 48kHz and check that the SB Live is configured to use 48kHz and 16 bits in the Creative Device Control panel. Which version of Windows are you running?

Double click the little speaker in your system tray to reveal the Playback Mixer.

Select options / properties to switch between Playback and Record Mixer......

Sounds like a driver issue. JavaSound requires DirectSound drivers, which are part of DirectX. You could try updating DirectX on the PC (see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;DE;drxint) but there may be problems with the driver models used on Windows 98 & ME, which differ from Windows 2000/XP etc.

I tried a second sound card, but had no luck with it either. I have another computer with XP on it. I think I'll start over with it.

Thanks for the help!
From the control panel.
What other values are in the drop downs? I would think you would want your default playback device to be 'speakers" and your recording device to be "line in/mic in"...not Wave Out/In for both. At least that's how it works with the Live! External.

That's the only option in the drop downs.
