Aright this is the build I was thinking about doing:

Now my question is do this 18in sub really need more than 1000w of power, and when I use a pro amp with a sub, do I just cut a little hole in the back even though its seal?

The living room is only small to medium size room.
I highly recommend using something like the EP2500 - since I just built a 8cuft Tempest-X2... and I'm sure the 18" Maelstrom will be just as power hungry (or capable!). Worst case you just use 1 of the 2 channels in the amp like I'm currently doing.

Cut a little hole in the back? You mean for the speaker wire? Generally you'd just install a terminal on the box... something like this:
