In my quest for whole home video and audio distribution I have run into many issues but the last I need to fix relates to Windows 7.

Long story short, I am looking for receivers or processors that will take a digital input, will decode it, and send it as two channel analog out a second zone or some other output.

Long story long...I use WMC7 for cable and movie watching. Windows 7 only allows one audio output to be active at any given time. This means I currently have to send two channel analog from the HTPC to my receiver because the signal also runs through a matrix switch that feeds other televisions in the house. These other televisions are currently only using the built in speakers for audio. I'm still a bit behind the times because I use component video for ease of distribution and coaxial digital out for the audio. I don't use HDMI at the moment because it's a nightmare to send to multiple locations. I'm missing out on new HD audio formats but I can handle that if I can enjoy DTS and Dolby Digital again in my theater while allowing someone to turn on another TV in the house and watch and listen to the same thing!

I'm pretty sure the UMC-1 can do this and am probably leaning that way but wanted to know what other options were out there. Most products I have looked at only take analog inputs for the second zone.

Hello,
Welcome to HTS. I believe most multizone AVR's should do what you are looking to accomplish as it appears you want Analog for Zone 2. The Emotiva would be a fine choice provided you have Amplifiers as it is an SSP and not an AVR.
Cheers,

JJ,

I do want analog for zone 2 but I want it from a digital input. It's my impression that most of the sub $1000 receivers and processors don't take digital as a valid input for a second or third zone but I may be mistaken.

A processor is no problem. I am running a Rotel RMB-1075 for an amplifier.

Hello,
I believe many Denon models offer Digital on Zone 2 and 3.

Your impression is correct, for quite a few Onkyo's at least.
