Re: CRT based RPTV Convergence Repairs

Your post has been moved to the Panasonic forum to maintain forum organization.

Your problem is not convergence, it is purity. You have a severe magnetic field on your tube and the internal degaussing coil in your set is either not working or is insufficient to demagnetize the tube. It is not uncommon on these sets to have bad connections on the relay or thermistor or have a bad degaussing thermistor. Usually when the thermistor is bad it blows the fuse and the set will be dead. My best guess is a bad solder connection.

It is also possible that a nearby lightning strike can leave this kind of magnetic field on a CRT and the internal degaussing coil is insuffient to clear it up. If this is the case, you will need an external degausser.

Another possibility is that the set has physical damage to the shadow mask due to a shock like being dropped. There is no fix for this other than changing the CRT.

The fuse is likely fine, or the set would be completely dead.

So the problem came back after manually degussing cleared it? Look for a bad solder joint in the circuit.
