Hello, My name is Andy,
I am new to the forum. Thanks For having me!

A while back I was using rew and setting up loop-backs and such. Just playing around and exploring features.

Somehow I was on RTA and saw a phase check box and I checked it and I saw the Phase along with the frequency response. I think I was using PN Pink or just plain Pink at the time.

I dont remember how I did it and I have been trying to get it to work now that I have a big use for that feature.

Was it taken off with new update? OR Can anyone please be as kind to tell me how to do it. I have a bunch of folks on another forum that are waiting for me to get back to them. I used search and couldn't find much on real time phase,
Thanks A bunch

Andrew:smile:

I think your memory is playing tricks on you, there is no phase trace on the RTA and never has been, it is magnitude only.

Thanks John
Well my memory sure is playing tricks on me for sure. I thought for sure it was rew that I was on and now I can't remember.

I have a few RTAs and a whole bunch of RTA apps and I used a few different trial.softwares.

How hard would it be to add that? I know I've used it before, now that I have a genuine use for that feature do you think there's any possibility to add it.

A lot of the trails were good I mostly didn't know how to work them by the time the trial was over. And frankly I love rew because it works good especially with the minis. Everyone on the car audio forum I'm on would like that feature as well. (Btw love the rephase add on)

I think I speak for a lot of folks in the car audio side of things, we love rew and love it's functionality. Everyone on the boards use rew and for off set seating that feature could really help things a lot.
So if you get board (hint hint nudge nudge) ;)

Well I super appreciate your time and efforts. Without rew car audio would still be using LED analyzers, so thanks. :)

Checking harmonic distortion in RTA has the option to also calculate the phase of the harmonics, and to add harmonics to the generator signal. Perhaps passing a signal through a device that exhibited noticeable phase shift with frequency (and harmonic distortion) would show up the harmonics as having ever increasing phase shift to the fundamental. And that phase increase would then identify the phase change with frequency through the device.

I also noticed that doing a loopback calibration will generate the frequency and phase response of the measurement loop. I guess if you insert an intermediate device, and repeat the calibration, then the difference in calibration responses would be the amplitude and phase response of the intermediate device. Not real time, but at least a snap shot.

Okay thanks guys.
Yeah maybe I was doing some sort of calibration
I distinctly remember seeing phase real time in the RTA window.
I am not super fluent in ARTA and don't remember using that but I could have. (I'm such a noob)

I still want to think I remember it was REW. i was doing some calibration on sound card and trying loopbacks and experimenting with REW when I very first installed it for the first time while teaching myself how to do it ....

I would somehow like to duplicate what I did so I don't seem crazy to my friends on another forum. I'll try setting up different calibration and see if I can duplicate

If anything is possible with REW, John would know. He has authored every line of the code.

Can't help you there, friend. Who cares? Let 'em think you're crazy! Or just stick around here, we'er all a bit crazy, you'll fit right in.:wink2:
