Hello,

Where does REW look for a Java install on Windows?

I have both the latest 32bit and 64bit Java Development Kits (JDK, versions 1.8.0_25) installed on my Windows 8.1 machine, but still get the error "ERROR #10: A Java Runtime Environment for 'roomeqwizard.exe' could not be found."

It'd be nice not to have the JRE installed twice (as the JDK already includes a copy of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE)).

Bit odd, the installer would normally try and fetch Java if it thinks it isn't installed. Perhaps you might need to manually set up the JAVA_HOME environment variable to point to the 32-bit JDK installation directory (the REW installer needs a 32-bit JRE).

Hi John,

The installer worked as you mentioned; it fetched the 32bit JRE as it didn't detect the installed 32bit JDK.

I uninstalled the JRE that was installed alongside REW, thinking that I could play with the JAVA_HOME variable to point to the JRE within the 32bit JDK, but no luck. I also tried pointing to the 32bit JDK. In both cases, I'd get the error message from my initial post.

Which is why I'm curious of what REW is 'looking for' in terms of a Java install.

The Windows installer is a 3rd party application, afraid I don't know what it is looking for but I'd speculate it is trying to run the java command, so if "java -version" doesn't work from a command prompt the path to the java.exe may need adding to the PATH environment variable.
