Hi All
I have been playing around with Rew, and now I can't get a measurement. It freezes at 99%. Whats funny is first it happened on Windows after updating Java, but on Linux it kept working. Then a few weeks later, it does the same thing on Linux!

Does anybody have any suggestions?

May be you could do a fresh install of both REW and Java. I downloaded Java to another laptop (old) from there website.

Worth a try, you might find that one works and you don't have do the other.

Details (Windows 7, Vista etc) of your computer might help as well.

I already tried that. Reinstaled Rew and reinstaled Java (several times) on Windows. The computer runs windows XP and Ubuntu 12.04.

Ok

I am in the process of sorting out my laptop (XP) although it measured ok, except mine is slightly different, trying to use the built in sound card, worked on Vista Realtek but not on ALi.

Do you use Registry cleaners etc? I have used something on my wife's computer that has made it improve performance a lot, basically returns it back to original settings registry etc. I was thinking of doing this with mine.

More detail with the computer, Service pack ,RAM, etc for others to look at.

Check the REW log files (location is shown in the help -> about box) to see if any error messages have been logged.

The computer is a Dell Latitude E5400 with a Core 2 Duo @ 2.00ghz, 4 gb RAM, running Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3, Java 7 update 5 (have tried update 9) I dont use this system much so it isn't cluttered but I have in the past run a free registry cleaner.
Here is the latest REW log:

If I enable Preferences->View->Use Dark Background, it hangs/freezes for me too.
Works fine with the default white background.

Are you OK using regedit? If so, please close REW, open regedit and go to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs\room eq wizard

Right click on that entry and choose "Export" and save the file somewhere convenient. Then right click the 'room eq wizard' regedit entry again and choose "Delete". You can then restart REW, but you will have to reselect your audio settings, reload any cal files you were using and redo the SPL calibration, as all the saved preferences will have been removed. Please zip the .reg file you saved and post it here, that will help me track down what is causing the problem.

If you are not comfortable using regedit just go into the REW Preferences menu and choose "Delete preferences and shut down", then restart REW and reselect the audio input etc as above.
