REW 3.9 works perfectly, but, having installed version 4 it tells me it can't find output device.
I am using a RME sound card.
Any suggestions would be appriciated.

Hi Ken,

Please generate a soundcard debug file using the option on the soundcard settings tab, and also say what input and output were shown when all was working OK in REW V3.29. What happens if you set REW to use the default input and output devices (and have those set up as being the RME card in the Windows Sounds and Audio devices properties)?

Thanks Sonnie, RME is a quality sound card. The model is RME Hammerfall DSP 9632.

Thanks for the reply John, I will get those figures together later.

The RME card cannot be set as the default sound card in windows and a different device has to be set as default, according to the manual; but only if you want to use windows sounds.

When opening the Control panel/Sound and Audio Devices, it shows No Sound Device on the the opening panel; This is normal for the RME card apparently; this therefore means that volume cannot be controlled by windows; even though I have the RME analogue siganals set as the default in the drop down panels within the Audio Tab.
With REW v3.29 this was not a problem, as far as being able to use the card.

In v3.29 Input and Output could be set to the RME analogue in/outs or Primary sound driver, without issue; I just have to control volume with the Processor or the RME mixer.
If I set the on-board sound device, as default, it is instantly recognised, but to use this sound device would entail a lot of cable adapters being made as I use XLR connectors throughout, and I'd rather avoid that if possible.

In v4 at start up it hunts for the sound card and ends up with an output device error; manually selecting the card, no matter which selection, ends up with a very long wait for the program to find no output device. I suspect that because the card is not contollable by windows it is not recognised by REW either.

If this cannot be resolved, at least I can continue to use v3.29, but v4 looks really nice.

Thanks Ken, will await the debug file. Can you also please check the roomeqwizardxx.log.txt files in your home directory and see if REW has logged any additional info in there.

I decided to make the cables and use the computers onboard sound card. All is working fine.

I have a RME 9632 card with the latest firmware and drivers. Since it is a commonly used sound card among musicians/audiophiles it would be nice to be able to use it with REW. This is my debug file:

Does the RME have WDM drivers? I suspect it may be ASIO only, which JavaSound does not support. Adding ASIO support is on the dev list but a long way off.
