Hello all I have a question. I am thinking about building a sub from scratch I want to use Birch plywood 13 ply and inside line it with 3/4 MDF resin saturated. Ok what is an "infinite baffle" and I know what a ported enclosure is. Ok I have a huge peavey dth 215 subwoofer. it is ported and I would like to retune it for a real low frequency. I was told you can retune non horn enclosures with some difficulty. I am not a mathematician so is it true that you have little worries about "tuning" with a sealed enclosures? I know they require a lot more power. But I have so many amps that power is not an issue. Thanks for any help you all may give.

A dth 215 is a large cabinet that has two 15 inch black widows one firing inside the cabinet and the other firing out like in a normal cabinet. Woofer on the bottom fires in and the woofer on the top fires out like in a normal cabinet. in the middle there is a square port. The cabinet is 50 inches tall by 19 inches wide by 34 inches deep and weighs 130 LBS. built with Baltic birch plywood and is carpet covered. I got them at a real good price with the intention of rebuilding them for home audio. The Black Widow drivers have little travel. I installed a home audio driver and I tapped the cone and it sounded much much deeper than the black widow. I don't have nuetric cables to test it out. I am ordering a pair of them. I also will purchase an electronic crossover for subwoofer use and bridge one of my amps and hopefully get some low end that I like from an organ recording.

The reason I am trying this is, that I don't have a huge budget (just moved to South Dakota and the move was spendy) and until I can afford something like a velodyne I need to make this work as good as I can. I also like the look of these cabinets. But I have amps already from my band days plus a few tube amps and instead of buying a plate amp I see electronic crossovers for subwoofer use. I hope I can get this to work. I have a pair of 15 subwoofers from an Allen organ that goes down to 15 hertz to reproduce the 32' pedal pitches which at low "C" is at 16.4 hertz . The cabinet the Allen speakers came from was much smaller.

sorry to hear you moved to the rushmore state...it's getting cold! I'm in Sioux Falls. I thought low c, bottom c, was 8Hz?

Cool you are not that far from me. I am in Huron. I was about to throw the towel in and move back to MO. But I just landed a real secure (as secure can be in these times) job at the Wolsey Wessington School district. Anyway at a 32' rank of pipes low C on the pedals would be 16.4 HZ. The Wannamaker Grand Court organ has a 64' string pipe that is at 8 hertz. and Atlantic city that organ has a couple of 64' ranks not sure but one is a diapason.

I really do love this state I had a lot of joy here.Though it is getting nippy and I have to do snow removal at the school when it does snow OH JOY!!!! How I can wait. Tom
