Projector Central used this paint, #B20 W 51. They claim to have a near perfect screen with this product. They stated that with today's projectors, you are better off with a white paint, not gray.

Anyone here experimented with this? Good results?

Our 155" screen is painted with Behr Silver Screen and Behr White Opal Pearlescent (3 to 1 ratio).

Projector Central is a good starting point for researching projectors. It is also a terrible place to research a diy paint for a screen. Not quite as bad as avs but close.

So to answer your questions, yes and no. Search and you will find answers.

We are considering a DIY paint upgrade (if possible) to our existing screen.

Panasonic PT-AE8000U
155" screen (Behr SS / Behr White Opal Pearl)
23 foot throw distance
Dedicated home theater, light controlled, dark maroon walls/ceiling/carpet

Can you point me in the right direction? Here is a previous post: DIY Screen - 155" Diagonal - Advice Needed (Multi-page thread 1 2 3)

Nope, no need to point! Find a white paint in matte finish and go with that. You don't have enough lumens or a need for a gray paint. And, believe it or not, that Sherwin Williams paint recommended by PJCentral may actually work for you! Given your specs, the calculator estimates 8fL which is below recommendations for a home theater. So you probably won't notice the hot spotting.

What I would do is to get a sample of whatever it is you're thinking of using and check it versus what you're currently using. If it's an improvement, re-paint the screen. :T

Thanks! The images in the photos are the PT-AX100U, not the new 8000U. The projector is plenty bright, even with some lighting in the room. The 8000U is way brighter than the 100U!

I'll paint up an MDF board, then see what happens. Stay tuned...
