Sony BDV-E980 home cinema not playing avi's

I have been trying out my new Sony BDV-E980 home cinema and I love it, it seems to be playing everything and doing it well except for some (most avi's), there are some it will play but most it won't.

Could anyone please help me out with this

Are the avi's all encoded with the same codec? If not, that's probably the issue.
