I won the SI 15" sub should b here tomorrow i'm pumped!! But have started modeling it it in a 5 ft^3 ported enclosure tuned to 23 hz with dual 4 in ports but my port velocity seems a bit high, just over 27, any suggestions on how to lower it? or is it on the high side of acceptable? Including screenshots. Thanks

Re: New SI HT woofer specs and info

You can push a single 4" flared port to 26m/s, a pair at 27m/s is a non issue. Did you ad a HPF in your modeling? Are you building a HT sub?
Re: New SI HT woofer specs and info

ya HT sub gonna cross it over between 80-100hz gonna tweak it to see what works best & no hpf on it
Re: New SI HT woofer specs and info

You will need a HPF for low frequency protection, when you model it it lowers the port air speed. 5 cu.ft. tuned to 20 hz would be ideal for HT in my opinion.
Re: New SI HT woofer specs and info

what would u set the hpf at? 15hz? im not experienced in using hpf on subs. Thanks
Re: New SI HT woofer specs and info

How much power will the sub get?
I'm shooting for 500 watts, either a good plate or pro amp but money is kind of tight ATM & having a hard time finding a suitable amp
A plate amp will have a HPF, a pro amp won't. You'd need to get an add on unit like a Behringer MIC2200 which is about $100.
Am I wrong in thinking that 20hz is the lowest u can set most plate amps hpf at? And if so & the box was tuned at 20hz also would that b ok? Or should the hpf b slightly lower than the tuning of the box or should I just tune the box slightly higher? Thanks
A Yung 500 amp has a 20 hz HPF, a Bash 500 has a 18 hz filter. For 5 cu.ft. tuned to 20 hz you wouldn't notice a difference in output at 20 hz, either amp will do.
K thanks for the help & info Mike
Just to clarify, if I may...the Yung WITHOUT Bass Boost has an hpf at 20Hz. The model with the bass boost at 25Hz is unknown at this time, but it is likely that the boost is part of a high q hpf whose corner frequency is unknown.
The bash & Dayton plate amps seem to b much more popular than the Yung ones, is that because they r better amps?

The Yung brand is new, Bash amps are solid, and some of the Dayton amps have hum issues.
I definitely prefer the 'digital' amps like the BASH and Yung. Just the fact that they use two-prong power cords will alleviate most 'hum' problems for users. One supplier of both Yung and BASH believes that the Yung are a bit more powerful, and he made a comment that a certain OEM asked Yung to really beef up their design. I guess that's why Yung claims that they can run for hours without problem while putting out all of their rated power. The BASH are a lot easier to mod though, if you're into that sort of thing. I have yet to actually use a Yung, but I do have one on my kitchen table disassembled (I was tracing out the preamp circuitry). It definitely looks well made, and I look forward to putting it to use some day.
Thanks Garcia I will definitely keep that in mind when I make my decision
I got my sub yesterday but been super busy so haven't got to mess with it or post some pics but will later & all I can say is that thing is a beast!!!! It looks good, is well built & did I mention as heavy as my 2 year old daughter!
Thanks for the clarification.

alot of folks claim my amp hums.id like to say mine has never.

dayton sa240b by the way.
Ya seems alot of people have alot of different opinions on Bash & Dayton plate amps, I'm just going to research the best I can & make the most educated guess I can lol, wish me luck
shoot for the o audio amp.i hear they have the least issues.
