I'm trying to decide between these three amps (edit - as well as a pair of Dayton SA1000s) to drive a diy subwoofer with dual-opposed 4 ohm JBL made Revel 15 inch woofers. The Revel Ultima amp was rated 700w, and these four amps all have that power. The Outlaw mono amps I'm currently using run out of steam down low.

For home use, are all three pro amps quiet? Is there a difference in energy efficiency between them? Is there anything else I should be considering in the under $800 range?

I have a Velodyne SMS1 for EQ. It has an xlr output.

Not to shut down the Daytons as they have many quality products that i wouldn't hesitate to buy on my next splurge but i wouldn't buy there amps unless used in a very efficiant design (just my 2 pennies). If it were me i'd go for the Crowns for power and warrenty.:T

BTW-are you currently using the Outlaw M2200??
I think they are M200 but you might be right. I have had them for a while. I used them as main amps until I bought an Anthem 7 channel amp for all the speakers.

I see one vote for two Dayton's and one for Crown. Are the QSC GX7 and Yamaha P5000 not well thought of?

I suggested the Dayton as it is very popular here. Crown makes an excellent product, so I think that it would depend on your budget. Bambino's is more experienced with DIY subs than I am, so you should probably take that into consideration, too.

Don’t know about that particular QSC, but the Yamaha is regarded as being an excellent high-fidelity amp. Haven’t heard about it being used on the subs, so can’t comment about that. Just keep in mind when price-comparing that the QSC doesn’t have a full-range FTC power rating, only a 1 kHz rating.

I have 2 of the same JBL subs (separate boxes) as yours. I first powered them with a Crown K2 (800wpc), then replaced them with BASH 500w plate amps from PE. The Crown K2 was very good, but I needed XOs when I setup a TT stereo so I bought the plate amps, which have even more output.

I had the Yammy P7000 which is the next step up from the P5000 you mentioned. While it was a nice looking and super silent amp, I just didn't like the way my sub (Sealed Aura NS18) sounded so I switched to a Behringer and enjoy the sub much more. The sub just didn't seem to dig low enough with the P7000.

Go with the Crown. I personally have the XLS 2000. Super quiet, I'm not sure if the fan has ever turned on. I love the lights telling you when it's clipping, easy to adjust. Monster power...I have it on two 12 inch Crystal Mobilesound car audio subs. It slams so hard. Has knocked two picture frames of my walls. I had to take the oven racks out of my oven because it shakes them.

Go Crown, can't beat the 3 year no fault warranty.

I ended up buying two SA1000s. I'm glad I looked at the Crown and QSC offerings before buying. Both just looked cheap to me. Too much styling. The basic black alloy-face Daytons blend in better with my other gear. They look like high end amps, even though they're not expensive.

They seem to have plenty of power. Clearly more than the Outlaw monoblocs did. I'm happy with them.
