Some time ago I built a Aperiodic subwoofer enclosure utilizing a 15 inch DVC Madisound driver (8ohms) and a pretty cheap 70wat plate amplifier.
Up until recently i have been reasonably happy with the result.
However I have since aquired 2 x Marantz MA 700 monoblock amps (200 watts rms into 8 ohlm) and would love to build 2 x 15 inch subs for my H/T.
Australia is a great place to live but trying to find a suitable 15 inch driver at a reasonable price has proved difficult.
I'm now contemplating purchasing a Dayton DVC385-88 15" VC Series Subwoofer from Parts express. The cost is $127.00 US and the freight is $180.00 US.
Having read some of the previous threads, it seems they are a pretty good driver but for $300?
If anyone has a suggestion?

Due to your location it's unfortunate as to the shipping charges you have to pay. Then there's the issues of damage or warranty. If you're forced to pay $300 for a sub then there are a few options in Australia. Depending on what you're willing to go with on sub size and box size, here's a few sites:

Mach 5 Audio products that are the best value for the money. You can get a 18 inch for the price of others 12 inch subs.

Notably the Perrless line of XLS and XXLS subs.

Exodus line of subs which are excellent.

Thanks Mike.
Its fantastic that someone on the other side of the planet has information on products in my own backyard.
I have made enquiries with affordable drivers, but i did not know about the other two.
Affordable drivers recommended the IXL 18. Reasonably priced but a low efficiency and not in stock for maybe a couple of months.
Bridging my two monoblock amps would overcome the 87db (apparently a generous figure, actually lower) with 600 watts available, but i'm not sure.
Also having one 360 litre enclosure, rather than 2 smaller enclosures could make more restrictive in terms of placement in the room.
I will take your advice and give the exodus subs a good look, and do some more homework. Its all fun.
Thanks again
Paul
