Hi,

I have a small room (10 * 12 * 10) [1200 cubic feet], and a 15 inch subwoofer (SPL-150)

Sometimes I feel that subwoofer is overpowered for the room, but returning it is not an option. What can I do, to get the best out of it? The rest speakers are Klipsch RP-600M

I am using Onkyo receiver. Also, with this setup, shall I switch on AccuEq or not?

Thanks in advance

Assuming by “overpowering” you mean it’s too loud, it’s easy enough to turn it down.

You can also use Room EQ Wizard to take frequency response measurements, which would help with optimal location in the room, as well as possibly using an outboard equalizer to address any significant anomalies.

You are doubling the effect of room modes with the 2 dimensions being the same (10 feet). This is going to make it very difficult to get rid of the peak in bass response caused by the 10-foot room dimensions. The only way to "beat" that is to place the subwoofer very close to your seat... like right up against your seat. Obviously, that means turning down the volume level of the sub. With the sub close to you, you will hear the subwoofer over any effects the room causes. There's really no such thing as a sub being too big for the room it is in. But the room can cause problems, like yours. The 3rd dimension of your room being 12 feet, means you can divide all 3 room dimensions by "2" evenly... that causes another multiplying of room modes. So your sub is really "fighting" your small room. If moving it close to your seat doesn't smooth-out bass response, your sub just may not be suitable for your room. That shouldn't happen, but you never know.

Exactly!

The Road 18" Yamaha bass bin is powered by the Yamaha AVR. The Yamaha volume is at -6. The sub output level of the Onkyo AVR is at +9 of +12.

Well, you don't have to use the full volume unless you want to crack your walls and roof. Minimise everything.
