I missed the part in the design thread stating the sub works well with the stock HPF. You can get a bit more output at 20 hz if you're willing to modify it.
If that is the BASH amp, it needs to be modified. I think the stock corner frequency is 30Hz. You need to have it set to around 18Hz with a Q = .8 or less.

This exact same design can be done with the port firing to the rear. It is sometimes difficult to finish the inside of the slot port (paint it before you glue it together) and if you prefer not to see the port, it can just fire to the rear over the top of the amp.

Ok, I have had the HSPA500 amp for a day or two so allow me to give you my impressions. I first had a HSU STF-2 10" ported sub. Nice sub but lacked in the 60hz+ arena no matter what I did. Great little sub though...

Since I have been sick with my wife and kid out of town I have had the last two days to play with the TempestX-2 and watch too much media. I am very pleased with the outcome. I am hearing/feeling frequencies I hadn't before. The sound quality is better/sharper and naturally the quantity is far more than I had or even need. But none of this is about need is it...I have a brand new house with a 14X16X(10-11)vaulted funny ceiling media room. Where I previously had bass dead spots there is envelopment. I will now need to work on making things rattle-proof, i.e. sconces in media room, door down the hallway, etc. :hsd:

I continue to push the setup to check the limit but have yet to find it. I recall Kevin mentioning that this 500W will never reach the subs max but I still try to be conservative.

So, I watched War of the Worlds, Transformers, Dark Knight, and Hulk. Now I may not be able to watch movies while my kid is sleeping... She has been used to the STF-2 since birth but this is another world.

Current settings: I ran Audyssey with the gain on the amp at 60% and haven't touched it. All other settings on the amp are all the way down. Haven't played with the parametric EQ or anything else yet. Not too sure what to do there but I'll figure it out.

Thanks Kevin for a great sub!

Any questions?

Brian
Brian,

Good.... sounds like you have enough output for your room. If you have Audyssey measuring and adjusting the sub, you shouldn't need the PEQ setting on the plate amp. Leave it alone once you run the Audyssey.
